Toast with Trump
Partisan politics are tearing this country apart, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Post-partisan governance is possible, if enough conscientious objectors refuse to fight and focus on policy instead. In order to bring a satisfying end to our unproductive political game, America needs to declare a winner.
The clear winner of America’s political system in 2025 is Donald Trump, the first president to serve non-consecutive terms since the 19th century. Congratulations, Donald Trump. On his 79th birthday, June 14, 2025, Americans can come together to raise a glass of spirits and declare Donald Trump the Ultimate Winner of American Politics–if he’s willing to meet the terms and conditions.
These include acceptance of the 2025 legislative agenda, laid out in 12 metrics. Since Congress had been ineffective at setting national policy for decades, the president would negotiate with the citizens directly, shepherding agreed-upon legislation through Congress in exchange for electoral support. The toast also represents a show of humility by Donald Trump. He is a lifelong nondrinker, having experienced the tragedy of losing his older brother to alcoholism. If he’s willing to demonstrate compromise as part of leading the nation into a year of jubilee, he can educate and unite the nation with a toast concluding with the words, “Alcohol is poison; let us face death together in service of others.”
